DEAD WHERE I STAND

(Bennett/Winget)

Back home to the red land
Swim up from the flood
Beg a dollar from a rich man
Drink a bucket of blood

Cool wind on the water
Fish floating on the sand
I’ve got a crumpled up dollar
A thirty-eight in my hand

Oh, I’m dead where I stand
Oh, oh
I’m dead where I stand
Forgive me Lord
I’m dead where I stand

Something in the wind
Blew me free
Set me out
On a shooting spree

No, I don’t mean bullets
But the freedom that they bring
Wrap a tie ‘round my neck
Pledge allegiance to me

‘Cause I’m dead where I stand
Oh, oh
I’m dead where I stand
Forgive me Lord
I’m dead where I stand
HOLDIN’ ME

(Bennett/Winget)

Theme Song for 'Warlocks Rising'

Doin’ time on a government line
It ain’t nothin’ to me
Bangin’ a rock by a click of the clock
And suckin’ on nicotine

But I’m waitin’
For the judge to set me free
I did a little somethin’
But it ain’t why you're holdin’ me

Bars, beds, and rain
It all looks the same
I gotta run
Man, I gotta run

I’ll break the chains
And find a way to the river
I may be a devil
But I ain’t no sinner

But I’m waitin’
For the judge to set me free
I did a little somethin’
But it ain’t why you're holdin’ me

BLOW, WIND, BLOW
(Bennett/Winget)

Red dressed devil lady
Loves like a pro
A bat of her lashes
Makes a dead man moan

Cry out her name
Like a crow to the sun
She’s layin’ on a bed
In room 201

Blow, wind, blow
Let her go, let her go
Blow, wind, blow
Let her go
Blow, wind, blow

Take her to the water
Where the dead vines part
Knock her head from her body
With your silver guitar

Put her head in a hole
And you’ll free her soul
Strum a few chords
And she’ll cry nevermore

As the sun is dead
And the dead are gone
The green eyed lady is the devil’s pawn
Play her like a whistle
And you’ll play another song
Or let her lay the devil
As you wallow in a swamp

Blow, wind, blow
Let her go, let her go
Blow, wind, blow
Let her go

Blow, wind, blow

HERE AND AWAY
(Bennett/Winget)

Moon on water
Shine on the midnight bay
Soon we’ll be walkin’
Back from where we came

And you’ll be with me
When I’m here
And when I’m away

The blue of your eyes
Like the water at our feet
Take nothing from the sun
And shine upon the sea

Let it rescue me
And keep us in this moment

And you’ll be with me
When I’m here
And when I’m away

I try to breathe
To let it through
The love inside
I thought of you

I never knew
Perfection of a moment

Because you're with me
When I’m here
And when I’m away

Oh, I’ll hold you near me
When I’m here
And when I’m away

Here and away
Here and away

WHERE DREAMS REMAIN
(Darin Bennett)

Tess sipped a bottle of wine
On her broken down Chevrolet
She lay on her side
And the moonlight replied
A silhouette serenade

Gone were the nights that she longed for
When love was a song to play
Now the radio sings
The same words that could take her
So far away

Now, time replaces the wishing well faces
Of hopeful grace
She runs from the daylight
And bathes in the midnight

Where dreams remain
Where dreams remain

She raises a rose to the tip of her nose
And caresses the side of her face
Like a dove she would hunger
When love lost her number
Her thoughts in the clouds where she lay

Where there’s wonder
There’s fate
There’s someone
Who’s laying in wait
When nothing seems right
And it all looks the same
A stranger may call out your name

Where dreams remain
Where dreams remain
Where dreams remain

SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN

(Darin Bennett)

Sister Sally virgin queen
Sat and watched the church bell ring
Innocent the sister seemed
Sucking on her nicotine

Homeless Billy slept below
That park bench in the barrio
Up above, his pot of gold
In Sister Sally’s battered coat

Something to believe in

Sister, can you spare a dime
Said Billy a familiar line
Wash yourself and get a job
Said Sister Sally virgin snob

Sally saw a bird fly by
And sat down next to Billy’s side
She brushed his hair aside with grace
He kissed her hand and walked away

Something to believe in

HEAVEN'S NOT MY HOME
(Bennett/Winget)

Sing to me Po' Lazarus
From your fire pit of gold
Show me to my new birth
An after life called home

Well I never found religion
And I’m bound to lose my soul
But a richer life in Limbo’s
More than anything I know

So I’m walkin’ back to Limbo
‘Cause Heaven’s not my home

In life, I never found him
The killer of my Rose
In death I’ll be her savior
To Hell the killer goes

So I’m walkin’ back to Limbo
‘Cause Heaven’s not my home

Not my home
